Volunteer

Interested in Being a Volunteer at the 2025 Field of Honor®? We will have numerous opportunities to volunteer before the event and throughout the week!

ONLINE VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS for the 2025 Field of Honor® will be posted beginning September 15.

Links to the sign-up pages will be available for each type of volunteer opportunity.

Volunteer opportunities include the following:

FLAG ASSEMBLY
Help assemble flags on November 5 at the Georgetown VFW, 1000 N College St. from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If all flags are assembled on Nov. 6, there will be a request for a few more volunteers the next day.

FIELD SET UP DAY
NO SIGN-UP NEEDED! We will be setting up 2,000 flags between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on November 7. You are welcome to help or to just watch the field come to life. We typically need about 50 to 60 people on this day. Depending on how many people show up to help, there may or may not be assignments to serve available. But watching everything come together is amazing too!

Please note: As a safety precaution, during the flag and display set-up, children under 10 cannot be allowed on the field during the set-up process due to exposed rebar. Once the flags are all posted, all are invited to help finish setting up the field. Any youth under 18 that are volunteering must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

FLAG and SWAG SALES
Serve as a Cashier in the Sales Tent to help visitors place flag orders and make donations online, and to actively sell SWAG (Commemorative challenge coins, pins, caps, and visors). For SWAG purchases, process credit card payments, take cash payments, and make change as needed. Great customer service skills are a must. These opportunities to serve are mostly seated and require basic computer skills.

DEDICATION TAGS
Following all flag sales and assignment of flag location on the field, volunteers create the dedication tags. Making dedication tags only requires basic typing/computer skills and the ability to use a laminator. We’ll show you how!

FLAG REPOSTS
Help inspect and prepare flags for reposting on the field as visitors bring their flags from prior years. Guide visitors in making payments for these flags online. Requires positive interactive skills and the ability to (when necessary) convey that their flag does not meet the standards for reposting, and that they will need to purchase a new flag. Actively sell SWAG and process Square payments or take cash payments and make change as needed.

DOCENTS AND GREETERS
Help welcome visitors, provide directions and event information, take people to their flag after purchasing it at the field, attach dedication tags and laminated photos to the poles, and take photos if requested. Docents and Greeters also answer questions about the events and assist visitors with flag location using an app on their phone. Approved Docents and Greeters can also drive visitors with limited mobility in a golf cart to their flag(s) or to take a tour around the field. In all cases, great people skills, the ability to be on your feet for most of the shift time, and basic computer skills are essential.

Shifts are 2 to 3 hours each, typically 9-11, 11-1, 1-3, and 3 to 6 except for Sunday, Nov. 16 when there are up to two shifts, 9-12 and 12-3. Volunteers may select multiple shifts on multiple days.

Additional opportunities will be available to help set up tables and chairs for events throughout the week, assistance with taking down the field at the end of the Field of Honor®.

Contact Us if you need clarification on any of the volunteer opportunities.

Age requirements for youth will depend on the particular task.

Your Help is Most Welcome and Greatly Appreciated!
