Volunteer

Interested in Being a Volunteer at the 2024 Field of Honor®? We will have numerous opportunities to volunteer throughout the week!

Sign-ups will begin in September, but please “Contact Us” to express your interest in volunteering. In September, links to the sign-up pages will be posted on this page.

Volunteer opportunities start with setting up the field on November 8.

We will be setting up 1,800 – 2,000 flags between 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to help or to just watch the field come to life.

We will also be setting up the REMEMBERING OUR FALLEN tribute display and will need several additional volunteers. These individuals will need to be able to lift heavy items and to use a ladder.

Please note: As a safety precaution, children under 10 cannot be allowed on the field during the set-up process due to exposed rebar. Once the flags are all posted, all are invited to help finish setting up the field. All children that are volunteering under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

Most volunteer opportunities during the Field of Honor® are in the Flag Sales Tent helping to process flag orders and reposts, assisting visitors in purchasing flags, challenge coins, caps, visors, and pins, creating dedication tags, or helping to inspect and prepare flags for reposting. These opportunities to serve are mostly seated and require basic computer skills. Customer service skills are a must for taking flag orders and swag sales.

Making dedication tags only requires basic typing/computer skills and the ability to use a laminator. We’ll show you how!

All shifts are 3 hours each, typically 9-12, 12-3, and 3 to 6 except for Sunday 11/17 when there are two shifts, 9-12 and 12 – 3.

Docents and Greeters greet visitors, provide directions and event information, take people to their flag after purchasing it at the field, attach dedication tags to the poles, and take photos if requested. Docents also answer questions about the Field and assist visitors with flag location using an app on their phone. Docents also drive visitors with limited mobility in a golf cart to the flag or to tour them around the field. In all cases, great people skills, the ability to be on your feet for most of the shift time, and basic computer skills are essential.

All shifts are 3 hours each, typically 9-12, 12-3, and 3 to 6 except for Sunday Nov. 12 when there are two shifts, 9-12 and 12 – 3.

Additional opportunities to help set up tables and chairs for events throughout the week, assistance with taking down the field at the end of the week will also be needed.

Contact Us to indicate that you wish to serve as a volunteer. Sign-ups for specific days and shifts will begin in September.

Age requirements for youth will depend on the particular task.

Your Help is Most Welcome and Greatly Appreciated!
