Field Of Honor® Volunteer Sign Up – Field Docents, Greeters

Field Roles:

Greeters – Actively welcome visitors to the Field of Honor®, provide assistance with flag purchases, direct visitors to flag ordering options, hand out programs, provide information about the week’s events and help visitors with general information and direction to various exhibits and displays. This position is great for those who are active and like to be moving and enjoy interacting and meeting new people.

Hand out programs to ensure that all visitors receive one. Help seat people during events. Assist when additional Docents are needed to take visitors to their flag(s).

This role requires volunteers to stand and walk around the field as needed throughout the shift. Excellent interpersonal skills are needed to help visitors feel welcome. Must learn a variety of information to provide assistance to visitors, and must be able to use a cell phone to help provide flag location to visitors.

Flag Docents – Take visitors to their flag(s) after getting the flag position from the Flag Position Locator desk and/or from the Tag Maker if it is a newly purchased flag or reposted flag. Docents help visitors feel welcome and offer to take photos of the person or family with their flag(s) or elsewhere. They also encourage people to see the exhibits in the tent, share the location of the historical flags and those of the military and law enforcement, provide general information about all available resources on the field and assist in taking those with limited mobility in a golf cart to their flag. This is an active position that will require walking and talking with visitors.

Helps attendees find their flag location; helps purchasers put tags on their flags in the field; first line of information; helps maintain the integrity of the field and it’s visitors.

People interaction and walking! Love for the Field of Honor and all it represents. Most Docents will have a good bit of walking although golf carts will also be available.
