Field Of Honor® Volunteer Sign Up – Field Docents

Field Docents – Following a new flag or repost purchase, docents escort visitors to the location of their flag(s) once the dedication tag(s) is/are created. The dedication tag is then placed on the flagpole with a ziptie. If it is a repost, the existing flag in the assigned location is replaced with the visitor’s flag and the new tag is placed on their flag. The flag that was already in that position is then returned to the sales tent. Docents help visitors feel welcome and offer to take photos of the person or family with their flag(s) or elsewhere. They also encourage people to see the exhibits in the tent, share the location of the historical flags and those of the military and law enforcement, provide general information about all available resources on the field and assist in taking those with limited mobility in a golf cart to their flag. This is an active position that will require walking and talking with visitors.

A Docent also helps visitors find their pre-purchased flags, offers to take photos, provides Field of Honor® event information, and maintains the integrity of the field.

Being a Docent requires great people skills, the ability to do a lot of walking, be able to use a cell phone to help provide flag locations to visitors, and be able to drive a golf cart to safely take visitors around the field. Docents should demonstrate love for the Field of Honor® and all it represents. Only those with current driver’s licenses may use the golf carts to transport visitors.

Volunteers must be 13 years or older for this position.
